Each year, the VFFL issues awards in 8 categories that recognize the best achievements of the year.

2002 League Champion
The three division winners and three wild card teams make up the playoff teams that compete for the championship. The winner receives a trophy and 75% of the money collected during the year.

The Reapers won the championship in 2002 by beating the SC Wolves in the championship game.
2002 T.O.I.L.E.T. Bowl Champion
The six teams that do not make the playoffs compete in the T.O.I.L.E.T. (Too often I lacked enough Touchdowns) Bowl. The winning team receives half off the next season's franchise fee and is proclaimed the best of the worst!

The Canton Legends won the Toilet Bowl last season by beating the Mojo. It was the second straight trip for the Mojo to the T.O.I.L.E.T. Bowl game.

League M.V.P.
The VFFL M.V.P. award is given to the player who makes the biggest impact for his/her team in the areas of scoring and value as a big time threat. Votes are submitted by five teams that rank the finalists.

Priest Holmes won the league's M.V.P. award in 2002. Picking right up where he left off in 2001, Holmes dominated the position all year until a late season injury kept him out of the last two games and the playoffs.
Rookie of the Year
The VFFL Rookie of the Year award is given to the first year player who makes the biggest impact for his/her team in the areas of scoring and value as a big time threat. Votes are submitted by five teams that rank the finalists.

Clinton Portis was last season's Rookie of the Year. He showed flashes of being one of the league's premier running backs for years to come in his rookie year.

Golden GM Award
This award is given to the team owner who makes the best personnel move of the year (trade, draft, etc). Candidates are submitted by team owners and selected by the commissioner. The winner receives credit the following season towards waives and trades.

Rodney Hamilton is the winner of this award for the 2002 season. Some eyebrows were raised when Rodney made Priest Holmes the first pick of the draft in 2002. After all, Holmes was not a time-proven winner. From opening day, Holmes was a one-man scoring machine and the Hurricanes looked unstoppable until Holmes was sidelined with an injury.
Bonehead of the Year
Our most popular award, this award is given by the commissioner to the "winner" of the biggest bonehead move of the season taken from the weekly Bonehead of the Week winners.

Not often do you get a chance to get rewarded for brillance and being a bonehead in the same year but the Hurricanes did in 2002. Showing their "rookie" ways, the Hurricanes fell apart at the seams after Holmes went down last year. After the injury, the Hurricanes could not put a lineup on the field that was competitive for the rest of the season.

Coach's Lineup Award
This award is taken straight from the software package and is given to the team that places the best starters on the field week in and week out during the regular season. Having talent on your team is one thing, being able to use it is worth a win or two and a pat on the back.

This season was easily the most balanced we have ever had. Ten different teams had the best lineup at one week or another during the season, but it was the D-Generates who pulled off the best lineup three times during the year and won the award in 2002.
M*A*S*H Unit Award
This award is given to the owner, who, by no fault of their own, falls on bad times due to drafting players who get injured during the season. This award is given by the commissioner and is the tie-breaker for drafting order in case of a tie.

The Long Rifle's woes at the Wide Receiver position in 2002 will someday be legendary. Starting off hot and beating up on everyone in their division, the Rifles lost their entire WR corp over a period of two weeks, picked up more receivers, and lost them too! By the end of the season, the options for starting receivers looked like Sham was putting the entire New England Patriot team on the field.
